The Department of Food and Waterborne Diseases’ detailed epidemiological investigation and study into the causes is ongoing gastroenteritis which showcased guests in Marriage in Peania, according to your ad National Public Health Organization (EODY).
As EODY highlights, it was reported that around 50 people showed symptoms of gastroenteritis, 11 of which sought health facilities and were hospitalized. Three people are still hospitalized and are expected to be discharged today.

In particular, as the National Public Health Organization states in its statement, “the Department of Foodborne and Waterborne Diseases of the Department of Epidemiological Surveillance and Epidemiological Intervention in Infectious Diseases of EODY was informed, on 02/06/24, about the occurrence of cases of food poisoning, after a wedding reception, on the night of 01/06/2024. According to reports, 254 people attended the reception and a gastronomic menu was offered, prepared and made available by a catering company.
According to information collected by EODY, 11 of the guests presented symptoms of gastroenteritis in the early hours of 02/06/24 and were treated in 4 hospitals. According to the flows and registration forms of patients with symptoms of gastroenteritis referred by hospitals, 11 people attended specific health units and were admitted. Three people are still hospitalized and are expected to be discharged today.
The main symptoms were vomiting and diarrhea and began to appear about 2 hours after the meal (meal time 11pm). During communication with participants at the reception, it was reported that there are around 50 cases in total, without any mention of additional patients who attended the health facilities.
According to EODY, the Department of Health Control and Environmental Hygiene (TYEPY) of East Attica PE and the West Sector of Athens PE, the General Directorate of Public Health and Social Assistance of the Attica Region, as well as EFET were immediately informed. Immediately, TYEPY levels from East Attica PE and Athens West Sector PE visited the property and restaurant area, respectively.
The Directorate of Agrarian Economy and Veterinary Medicine (DAOK) PE Setor Oeste also participated in the on-site investigation of the business in question, which seized various types of food (meat, vegetables, etc.) during the inspection. At the same time, 10 food samples were collected from the menu offered (leftover food), which were sent to Hospital da Tessália for laboratory analysis.
“Results of laboratory control of gastroenteritis cases and also of food are awaited. A detailed epidemiological study was launched by the Department of Food and Waterborne Diseases. The investigation is ongoing”, concludes EODY.
