Angel Reese wants people to respect her name… Chicago Sky’s rookie star feels she deserves credit for making the WNBA popular now, not just Caitlin Clark!
Reese’s comments come just days after his first game against Clark — which definitely sparked controversy — as Angel’s teammate. Chennedy Carter he picked up a cheap shot at the first overall pick, resulting in a flagrant foul and a lot of criticism.
The ire wasn’t just directed at Carter… Reese also received his fair share for his reaction to the harsh foul. She was asked about what happened during Saturday’s game.
“It all started in the national championship game,” Reese said after Monday’s practice, adding, “I’ve been dealing with this for two years.”
Reese explained that she will always be the “bad guy”… and she’s okay with that.
‘I’m going to take on this (role) because look where women’s basketball is. People are talking about women’s basketball in ways you would never think about talking about women’s basketball.”
But, Reese – the No. 7 overall pick – wants to make sure everyone understands that the rise in popularity in the WNBA is NOT just because of Clark… like so many people have said.
“It’s not just because of one person. It’s because of me too and I want you to realize that,” Reese said. “It’s not just because of one person.”
“A lot of us did so much for this game…there are so many great players in this league who have deserved this for a long, long time and thankfully it’s coming now.”

Carter also met with the media, addressing foul play for the first time (she declined to answer questions about Clark over the weekend). Despite the reaction, she has no regrets.
“I think at the end of the day I’m a competitor,” said the point guard… “I’m going to compete no matter who you are and no matter who’s in front of me.

Carter — a former first-round pick — also said the narrative of racism circulating out there is false, reiterating that the incident was strictly physical.
“Hot game right now,” Carter said. “It’s basketball. It’s all hoops.”
