America has talent is back and better than ever – and they have more Golden Buzzer moments than ever to prove it.
One week before the premiere on May 28, AG season 19, NBC is releasing new episodes packed with reliable banter from the returning judges – Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel It is Sofia Vergara – and surprises in the form of an extra Golden Buzzer per judge.
That’s right, the four celebrities will each receive two Golden Buzzers, as opposed to the traditional per season – which gives the button-hitter the power to send one act throughout the competition right up to the live semi-final rounds. Host Terry Crews will also receive an opportunity.
“New season, new rules,” Mandel says via voiceover as a supercut of clips shows each judge hitting the play button.
While an audition act typically has to pass the three “yes” threshold from Mandel and her fellow voters – the Golden Buzzer has become a unique tool for Cowell, Klum, Mandel and Vergara to use when they are completely blown away by a performance.
“This is the 19th season,” says Mandel in voiceover. “We’re going to go up, we’re going to go further, we’re going to break records.”
Previous Golden Buzzer awardees include singer Grace Vander Waal and ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer, both of which won their respective seasons of the show. Comedian Drew Lynch – another big AGT success story – received the Golden Buzzer in season 10 and made it to the final two.
According to NBC, the show will feature “some of the wildest artists” ever featured on the long-running show, as well as fan-favorite performers like comedians, magicians and dance groups. Season 19 also introduces younger people AG always act, says the network.
Although the new season begins airing on May 28, live shows will begin in the greater Los Angeles area in early August. Live shows begin on August 13th and results shows will air the following night of each week until the end of the season.
