Mariska Hargitay isn’t letting anything get in the way of fans reuniting Benson and Stabler who they love vocally.
Hargitay recently spoke with Variety about how, despite the fact that Law and Order: Organized Crime is moving to Peacock for its fifth season, that doesn’t stop her from dreaming about crossovers with Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
According to Hargitay – who stars as Olivia Benson in SVU — she is Christopher Meloni (who plays Elliot Stabler in Organized crime) were debating ideas.
“I’m actually planning it,” Hargitay said of a future crossover. “I just told him the other day. We had a party the other night, we saw each other. It was wonderful. I met his showrunner. They want us together.”
Hargitay and Meloni co-starred in SVU by 12 seasons until Meloni’s departure in 2011. He returned to reprise his character in the spinoff, Law and Order: Organized Crimewhen it premiered in April 2021 on NBC.
“Chris and I were talking about this, and it’s time. Now is our time,” Hargitay told the outlet. “It’s been a long time since we’ve been in each other’s universe. That’s why we made the calls and stuff like that.
For several years now, one of Benson and Stabler’s dramatic lines has been an undercurrent of romantic tension that has been teased for years but not acted upon. The tension between them has been a point of obsession for fans long before Meloni left the show more than a decade ago.
ET spoke with the actress in January – before Law and order It is Law and Order: SVUthe final season premiere – and she – alongside her co-star Iced tea – confessed that they would like to see Benson and Stabler end up happy together.
“God, yes,” Hargitay responded when asked if she would like the former partners to team up romantically. “There is no show in the history of television where the characters have been together for so long that the relationships are truly earned, are truly organic. So Chris and I can go places no one else can, because we live it. much deeper.”
As for Meloni, he’s on the same wavelength – as long as as things settle for Stabler first.
Speaking to ET midway Organized crimeIn season one, the actor said that before Benson and Stabler can really move forward, there are a lot of “issues” the two need to resolve to get their relationship back on track. “I think it will require a lot of work, a lot of healing,” Meloni argued. “It’s a complicated situation, which I believe will make both series better.”
