In the decisive semi-final of the 2nd phase of the European pre-Olympic tournament, he defeated the Slovakian Wang Yang (4th seed) in sets 4-0 with an incredible game and impressively secured his presence in Paris in the singles event .
Furthermore, he will be at the top of the list of Greek athletes with the most Olympic participations!
Gionis joins sailor Tasos Boudouris, Agi Kasoumi (shooting) and Evangelia Psarra (archery), surpassing the legendary Kallinikos Kreanga, who had his great career in table tennis from 1996 to 2012.
