There is a place for Melissa Peterman in Reba McEntireheart of – and on his new show.
The country star is ready to make her return to scripted television once again with the upcoming NBC series, Happy place. But her face isn’t the only familiar face fans will see. Your ex Reba co-star, Peterman, was also Cast in Comedy, Centering on McEntire as Bobbiewho inherited her father’s restaurant after his death and discovers that her business partner is a half-sister she didn’t know she had, played by Hocus Pocus 2 star Belissa Escobedo. Meanwhile, Peterman was cast as Gabby, a bartender at the restaurant.
The show also reunites McEntire with executive producers Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis and writer Kevin Abbott, all three who worked on her eponymous series. Needless to say, it’s no surprise that filming the new pilot was easy.
“The cast is wonderful. We’re so excited,” McEntire told ET’s Cassie DiLaura on Monday. The voice Red carpet. “We shot the pilot and everyone said, ‘You know, this is like a first episode of season two instead of the pilot and that’s how I felt. Everyone liked it, everyone got along, and the writing is wonderful, so I’m really happy. I’m so happy.”
ET also heard McEntire’s reaction to what Peterman said about her during a recent interview with ETin which she emotionally said that the country’s icon is “like coming home.”
“I think in this business we have a lot of ‘Hollywood friends’ and you have friends that you only share the good things with,” Peterman described, teary-eyed. “I think I knew that when we started sharing real-life things, it would be forever. I know she’s got my back – if we work together again, she’s always on my side and knows I’m (attached) to her.”
As McEntire’s response confirmed, the feeling is certainly mutual. “I love Melissa. We freeze very quickly during the Reba show and I went on vacation and I remember when she told me she was pregnant with Riley… She’s one of my best friends, I’ll always love her forever and ever.”
Played with the Voice coach: “She wouldn’t be the one you’d call to bail you out of jail. She’d be the one sitting right next to you… She’d say, ‘Wasn’t that fun? Let’s do this again another time and not get caught.'”
The voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC.
