Turkish cross-border attacks in northern Iraq have been a source of tension with Baghdad for many years.
Ankara calls for more cooperation from Iraq in dealing with Kurdish rebels, and Baghdad in March classified the PKK as a “prohibited organization”.
Last month, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held talks with Iraqi officials in Baghdad and Erbil about the PKK’s continued presence in northern Iraq, as well as other issues.
He later said he believed Iraq saw the need to neutralize the PKK.
