Is that so, fans have another season of the show to look forward to. Max announced last August that his Sex and the City restart, Is that sohas been renewed for season 3. The streaming service later announced, however, that the show will not return until 2025 with a mounting clip promoting the third season.
Although fans are eager to resolve the Season 2 plot, the wait may seem interminable. However, things are moving forward. In May 2024, Sarah Jessica Parker shared a photo of the season one table read on Instagram.
“Here. We. Go. X, SJ,” she captioned the photo.
The Season 3 table read also introduced fans to a new addition to the cast – Rosie O’Donnell!
The actress and comedian also shared a post on Instagram from her script, revealing that she will play a character named “Mary.”
Following this confusing season 2 ending – where Carrie Bradshaw (Parker) and Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) say goodbye to five years and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) makes his triumphant return to the franchise for a brief cameo – fans certainly have some questions.
Showrunner and executive producer Michael Patrick King shared the news of the show’s renewal in a statement, saying, “We’re excited to spend more time on Sex and the City universe telling new stories about the lives of these relatable and aspirational characters played by these incredible actors. Is that so…here comes season three.”

PREMIERE DATE
The exact premiere date for season 3 of Is that so is currently unknown, but following the SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild strikes, there was a delay in production. Season 1 aired in late 2021 and Season 2 premiered in August 2023, leaving a gap of over a year between the two installments.
Max announced in December that the show would return in 2025 in a promotional clip for several of its shows.
In May 2024, Parker shared a photo of the season one table read on Instagram — although she strategically hid the title of the premiere episode.

CAST
Although the cast is currently unknown, it is safe to assume that Parker Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes) and Cristina Davis (Charlotte York Goldenblatt) will return for Season 3, with all three women serving as executive producers on the series. After Aidan left, he seemed to think he would be gone for years, while Carrie joked that it could be sooner than that – leaving open the possibility of Corbett’s future reappearance.
In February 2024, Nicole Ari Parker I spoke to ET about returning to work on the program in a few months, confirming his return. And Parker in May 2024 table read post on Instagram also tagged Mario Cantone and Sarita Choudhury, which seems to confirm that they will also return for the new season.
However, the reboot will also lose some characters established in Season 3. In February 2024, was reported what Sara Ramirez would not reprise his role as controversial comedian Ché Diaz, after appearing in the first two seasons.
In March 2024, it was also confirmed that Karen Pittman would not return as teacher Nya Wallace in season 3. Nya was a recurring character in Season 1, where she befriended Miranda at Columbia before becoming a series regular—and reluctant roommate—in Season 2.
“It was a joy to have Karen Pittman play the intelligent and impressive Professor Nya Wallace in the first two seasons of Is that so…,” a Max spokesperson told ET in a statement. “Just as we really enjoyed working with this dynamic actress, others did too. Due to her commitments to two other streamer series, it has become apparent that filming three series at the same time is not possible.”
“Due to the realities of production, we are disappointed to announce that scheduling conflicts will not allow us to continue this character as part of Season 3 of Is that so…,” the statement continued. “We will miss Karen and Nya, and their Max family and fans will all be rooting for her in her other endeavors.”

WILL SAMANTHA COME BACK?
Although Cattrall appeared in person at the end of Season 2, the actress didn’t seem open to future cameos when speaking with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager on Today show in June 2023.
“I don’t think I’ll ever say goodbye to Samantha,” she said. “She’s like a lot of other characters I’ve played over the years. I get very emotionally attached and protective of my characters. She’s given me so much and I’m so grateful for her.”
When asked if she would return for a possible third season, Cattrall responded, “That’s all I’m going to do.”
WILL CARRIE AND AIDEN STAY TOGETHER?
Showrunner King spoke about the final dialogue text of Carrie season 2 during the And just like that…The Writers’ Room Max podcast, specifically flagging Carrie’s line: “Well, I can get time off for good behavior.”
King adds: “You’d only say that if you were already going, ‘It won’t take five years.’ She’s really cute, but she keeps saying, ‘There will be others.'”
While the couple’s ultimate fate is unknown, Parker discussed the idea of bringing more of Carrie’s exes back into the franchise while speaking with ET ahead of the Season 2 premiere.
“There is not just one neighborhood in New York, there are many neighborhoods. And there are a lot of interesting people in New York and, specifically, there are a lot of interesting men and I think Carrie is still curious enough to want to know what else is out there.”
Seasons 1 and 2 of Is that so are streaming on Max.
