Kim Raver is teasing great things ahead Grey’s Anatomy.
ET spoke to the actress amid the show’s 20th season, and she promised that even though the episode was shortened due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the drama is still intense.
“This season 20 finale simply does not disappoint. It’s another classic Grey’s Anatomy“, she said. “There are so many things that reach a boiling point, that kind of explode, in the end. Even us as actors were like, ‘Wait.'”
“(They) did an incredible job, in such a short season, kind of weaving all these stories together and carrying them from the premiere to what’s happening (now),” Raver added of the writers and producers. “…It’s very complicated and very emotional. It’s a really great ending.”
Throughout the season, Raver’s Dr. Teddy Altman recovered from a near-death experience, which the actress told ET was “quintessential Grey’s Anatomy“in this” puts all the best things in one.
“The fact that in his return (to the season) in recovery, which is very dramatic and painful, there are also some really fun comedic moments… it’s a really great evolution to see and a great story to tell,” Raver said. . he said. “…She’s always been so tough, so it’s really fun to see her come back.”
For Raver, it’s no surprise that her character’s storyline was both complex and emotional, something she credits to the series’ writers.
“I absolutely love playing Teddy. I think she’s a multifaceted character with an incredible story. It’s so amazing to me that the writers are finding new stories to tell with her,” she said. “…I feel very lucky and grateful to be able to tell Teddy’s story. As people evolve, there are stories to tell. What’s great is that patients are coming in and shining a light on the stories that are happening for these characters.”
Given that the show’s plot evolves as new patients arrive at Gray Sloan Memorial, it makes Raver believe that Graycan continue indefinitely. It will last at least one more season, as Gray was recently renovated for season 21.
“I think there is an incredible sense of familiarity. With everything that’s going on in the world right now, being able to have a somewhat… extended family and live life with these other people, I think I could continue. and so on,” she said. “I think the central part Grey’s Anatomy it’s about people’s lives and how these patients come in and interact with the lives of our surgeons.”
“We have our moments where we shine and we have our moments where we really fail, in a way that we are all in this together, able to support each other and tell funny and touching stories simultaneously, is really the quintessence. Gray“, Raver added.
That magic speaks to fans all over the world, Raver revealed, telling ET: “People love Grey’s Anatomy. Once I was in a small town in Italy… I couldn’t see a streetlight in front of me because it was raining so much. There was Grey’s Anatomy fans who were stopping me in the rain.”
“I think people really get attached to the characters because they live with them,” she said. “There’s a comfort in that.”
