Olivia MunnThe role of mother played an important role in her breast cancer recovery.
The 43-year-old actress talks about how her 2-year-old son, Malcolmto whom she share with partner John Mulaneyeffortless effort made all the difference as she recovered from tiring treatments.
On Monday, Munn shared a throwback video of a fun day playing with her son in the sun.
“That moment was last summer, when I had already undergone three surgeries and the recovery – mental and physical – was quite difficult,” she explained in the text shared in the clip. “The smallest, silliest moments like that cheered me up every time.”
She added an eye-popping emoji along with “My Malcolm” at the end of her post.
In March, the New girl detailed actress via Instagram her shocking journey Luminal B cancer diagnosis, which she described as “aggressive” and “fast” on both breasts last year.
“In February 2023, in an effort to be proactive about my health, I took a genetic test that checks for 90 different cancer genes,” she wrote in a statement. “I tested negative for everyone, including BRCA (the most well-known breast cancer gene). My sister, Sara, had also tested negative. We called each other and said hello on the phone. That same winter I also had a normal mammogram. Two months later, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.”
Munn shared that as a result, she underwent a series of biopsies, surgeries, a double mastectomy, and reconstructive surgery over a 10-month period.
Later, in an interview with PeopleMunn credited her son with keeping her mind off cancer.
“When I’m with him, it’s the only time my brain doesn’t think about getting sick,” she told the outlet. “I’m really happy with it. And it puts a lot of things into perspective. Because if my body changes, I’m still his mom. If I have hot flashes, I’m still his mom. If I lose my hair, I’m still the his mother. That’s really what matters most to me. I can be here for him.
Munn and Mulaney have been together since 2021. They welcomed their sonMalcolm Hiệp Mulaney, in November 2021.
“I’m so excited to meet whoever and bring a little person into this world,” Munn told ET during her pregnancy.
