Here’s what Halle Bailey shared
According to PEOPLEthe first-time mom took to Snapchat last week to share a video message with fans. Entertainment tonight adds that the clip it was then released by a social media user on Instagram on Monday, April 22.
In the clip, Bailey reportedly began her statements by explaining how she was “triggered” by comments on social media. Ultimately, the 24-year-old made a revelation to Snapchat viewers.
“I have severe, severe (postpartum depression) and I don’t know if any new mom can relate,” she explained. “But it’s gotten to the point where it’s really bad and it’s hard for me to be separated from my baby for more than 30 minutes at a time before I start to freak out.”
Bailey explained that her boyfriend and son’s father, DDG, has been the “most amazing father in the world.” Additionally, she shared that her newborn son, Halo, is “perfect.”
However, she explained that one thing has been “difficult” for her to adjust to.
“Halo is a miracle. He is perfect. He is handsome. When I look at him, I cry because he is special. The only thing that has been difficult for me is feeling normal in my own body,” Bailey explained. “I feel like a completely different person. When I look in the mirror, I feel like I’m in a whole new body. Like, I don’t know who I am.”
The singer and actress delves into her experience
From there, Bailey went on to explain how she’s feeling.
“Before I had a baby and heard people talk about postpartum, it kind of went in one ear and out the other. I didn’t realize how serious this really was,” she said. “Now, going through this, it’s almost like you’re swimming in this ocean that has the biggest waves you’ve ever felt and you’re trying not to drown. And you’re trying to breathe.
As she continued, Bailey explained why she was “triggered” by the comments on social media and how it led her to share her experience.
“I think today I was triggered — especially (since) social media is not a good thing to be in postpartum — but I was really triggered today, especially seeing some of the things that were said about me and my family, and the one I love and those I love.”
Finally, the 24-year-old concluded her statements by talking about the importance of giving grace to others – especially new mothers -.
“Even if you admire certain people and think they’re celebrities, and they seem to have it all together, you never know what someone else is going through, especially someone who literally just had a baby.”
The first-time mom has opened up about her postpartum body goals

Later that month, the new mom returned to social media to share her postpartum body goals. At the time, Bailey shared a photo of her body before giving birth and another after.
“So this is me and I’m letting my body heal, I haven’t started working out yet, but I’m going to show you my goal,” she explained at the time. “I want to get back to that size in the upper part of my body, but I want to keep the flesh I gained in the lower part because I like it.”
