Josh Charles was, shall we say, a little tortured for keeping it a secret that he had been cast to appear in Taylor Swiftthe long-awaited music video for “Fortnight”.
The 52-year-old actor took to Instagram on Saturday and shared some photos of himself and Ethan Hawke, his Dead Poets Society Co-star. The first photo is a black and white photo of them in recent times, while the second photo shows them as characters from the 1989 coming-of-age drama directed by Peter Weir.
Charles began his caption by sharing that keeping secrets isn’t his thing. But he did, and didn’t even tell his kids about being cast in Swift’s “Fortnight” music video. “Fortnight” is the opening track from his 11th studio album, Department of Tortured Poets.
“I don’t like keeping secrets, so it was difficult. I didn’t even tell my kids until the other day!” said the actor, who shares two children with Sophie Flack. “Here are some tortured old poets about to board a morning flight to be pop stars for a day. I’ve been through a lot with this guy over the years, but I can tell you this was a memorable day.”
Charles, who has appeared in TV hits such as The good wife and successful films like SCAMthen paid tribute to Swift.
“We were treated with such class by Taylor and her team from start to finish,” Charles shared. “What I remember most were the laughs. There were a lot of them. As if we were 17 years old again. #TSTTPD.”
“Fortnight” highlighted Post Maloneand although most fans expected to see him in the video, they were certainly surprised when Swift introduced a Dead Poets Society meeting. Hawke and Charles were cast as scientists examining Swift after a love affair goes wrong.
And now that the cat is out of the bag, Charles is excited to be forever connected to the biggest pop star in the world. So much so that Charles took to Instagram after the video was released and posted a photo of himself showing off for PTPD merchandise, which sold out almost instantly when it became available on Friday.
The look alone left fans a little confused, but in the best way possible.
“I don’t know if I should say he’s one of us (Swifties) or she’s one of us (DPS fans), the world is crazy rn,” commented one Dead Poets Society fan.
Another fan added: “Don’t forget us Good Wife people, Will is totally fast.”
