Zendaya is revealing what some tennis big names thought about his latest performance. ET’s Denny Directo spoke with the actress and she Challengers co-stars about their film, and Zendaya shared how Serena It is Venus Williams responded to the project.
Although Zendaya said she hadn’t yet talked to Venus about the film — “fingers crossed” she would approve of her tennis skills, the actress said — she did talk to Serena about the film.
“She said, ‘I know there definitely weren’t real (tennis) balls,” Zendaya revealed of Serena. “She knows. She’s the best of the best.”
Serena praised Zendaya, as the Euphoria star recalled, “She said it was great, considering I’d never, ever touched a tennis ball before.”
This should be good news for Zendaya, who previously “apologized in advance” to the sisters for their on-screen tennis skills.
In addition to Williams Sisterswhose famous Vogue to look Zendaya recently recreatedZendaya said some of her family members, including her parents, watched the film, something she finds “hilarious” given its sexy nature.
“They all know the rating of the film. They know what it’s about. They were warned. And they all saw Euphoria, so it’s not like our first rodeo or anything,” she noted of her HBO series. “It was funny because obviously I’ve seen the movie many times, so I know what’s coming. They were all sitting behind me and I could watch them watch and slowly say, ‘Oh God.’
When it came to filming those sexy scenes, Zendaya’s co-stars Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor told ET that it’s “practical” more than anything.
“That’s the magic of cinema, it’s what comes off the screen,” Josh said. “When I was watching it, it was very raunchy, very emotional, on the edge of your seat. We actually laughed. (During the) three-way kiss scene, there’s a guy right next to us holding a spear and a camera right here. “
Zendaya added, “It’s not just the three of us. It’s also a whole team that takes part in the scenes.”
Challengers will hit theaters on April 26th.
