Rihanna is offering the best advice she has for other moms who are struggling to dress their kids.
Speaking to ET about the launch of her FENTY x PUMA Creeper Phatty Earth Tone shoe, the 36-year-old self-made billionaire said that after initially struggling with how she would dress her sons Rza and Riot, who she shares with her boyfriend A$AP Rockyshe looked at an answer right in front of her.
“When I wear them, I always try to dress them like Rocky,” she told ET’s Rachel Smith. “Because I always imagine dressing a girl, right? We all do as women, like, ‘Oh, I’m going to dress her in these cute little things,’ but then you have kids and you think, ‘What do I do?’ and I thought, ‘You know what, I have the biggest hack – their dad.’
The “Umbrella” singer and her rapper boyfriend, 35, met at the end of 2019. After three years together, the duo welcomed their first child, RZA, in 2022. Eager to expand their family, the couple quickly continued their first genetic collaboration with a boy named Riot, in August 2023. In her last pregnancy, fans will remember that Rihanna debuted her baby bump while performing at the Super Bowl.
A particular source of pride for her is finding inspiration in her children and having the chance to channel that creative energy into a brand. Rihanna credits her partnership with Puma as a big reason why she felt so inspired to keep moving toward her ultimate goal of starting a children’s clothing line.
“My inspiration for the design was – I had the opportunity to start with Puma, designing children’s shoes through Avantis and now we’re doing Creepers,” she said. “It’s really fun, it’s cute to see my kids wear things that… I made and designed. It’s really amazing.”
In December, she told ET at a separate Creeper Phatty launch event that the sky is the limit for her and her dreams of having an entire line dedicated just to kids, even though she was taking it slow when starting out with children’s shoes.
“This collaboration for me was being able to invite my whole family to a design and collection that I did,” Rihanna shared. “I could see my babies in these shoes.”
She added of a possible clothing line: “Yes, yes, everything is coming.”
In her new interview in London, the Fenty Beauty creator shared an update on her new album, lovingly labeled R9 by her fans, to which she had a cheeky response when asked when the project would be released.
“I want to know too,” she joked.
His latest album, Anti, came out in January 2016 and has since redirected her energy towards fashion, beauty and personal endeavors. Whenever the highly anticipated new album drops, RiRi says there’s a non-zero chance that Rza and Riot will be on the features list, but that “it’s up to them.”
If they decline, she says she’s not worried, as the ever-evolving album is one she knows will surprise fans no matter what.
“I already have stuff that I feel like I could make hits with… Me and Rocky are really trying to figure out who’s going to wear what,” Rihanna shared. “Because it feels so good.”
