He could not support the countess.
Patti Stanger just tells Page Six’s “Digital Reali-Tea” podcast why friend Luann de Lesseps’ romance with Mary-Kate Olsen’s ex-husband Olivier Sarkozy fizzled so quickly.
“Did not work. He didn’t want to do anything. He’s like, ‘I like staying home, I don’t want to go anywhere,'” says the famous relationship expert, 62, while selling her new CW reality series, “The Matchmaker.”
Revealing some of the suggestions Lesseps shared with her right away, Stanger says the “Real Housewives of New York City” alum’s vibrant character didn’t mesh with the French banker’s aloof disposition.
“Luann is the life of celebration. There’s no approach,” says the former Bravolebrity, who has known de Lesseps, 58, for years. “She said, ‘He was so annoying.’
Followers speculated that the “Stylish C’est La Vie” singer was exploring a possible relationship with Sarkozy after they were spotted enjoying a comfortable Manhattan lunch at Le Bilboquet in March. After a two-hour meal, they were photographed smiling broadly and arm in arm.
That same month, de Lesseps played the character for his ride. She informed Life & Model that she and Sarkozy — who divorced Olsen, 37, in 2020 after five years of marriage — “have recognized each other for some time” and characterized their dynamic as strictly platonic.

Still, Stanger remembers Lesseps telling her they met on Raya, the dating app enjoyed by celebrities and business elites.
The “Millionaire Matchmaker” alum emphasizes that she was “excited” about the prospect of Lesseps and Sarkozy dating – until she found out what their time together was like.
“Pay attention, when someone is destructive about their marriage or their relationships and all they want to do is hibernate, it’s still not healthy,” she says, suggesting that Sarkozy has made it clear to de Lesseps that he still has emotions for Olsen .
“That doesn’t mean they’re unhealthy, (but) I think he was depressed, from the looks of it. I mean, I wasn’t there. However, I feel like he was depressed.
Stanger, for his part, doesn’t blame him.
“It came from one of the most famous and lovely women in the world. She was attractive and rich,” she says of the young actress-turned-fashion designer. “That wasn’t a broke girl, okay? She didn’t want his money.
Meanwhile, de Lesseps wants to give French men a break, according to Stanger.

“I was like, ‘Avoid it — nothing against the French, but you had a lot of French men,’” she says of advising the cabaret artist, who was married to French businessman Alexandre de Lesseps for 17 years before courting the French stud. Jacques Azoulay.
“Maybe this time we’ll attack the Italians, or a Greek, or something, you know?” jokes Stanger.
When she’s not doling out recommendations to her friends, the love guru helps others facilitate happy endings on “The Matchmaker” — with the help of her colleague, “Bachelor” alum Nick Viall — as they promote topics to conquer personal fears, encouraging them to become the most eligible versions of themselves.
“We are an incredible workforce,” she raves. “And it’s less about finding people who will tolerate millionaires, like in my other programs, and more about figuring out how we can help create a lasting relationship for people, helping them heal from the past.”
Stanger is also fascinated by viewers at home, who may never have the opportunity to utilize her and Viall’s dating experience.
She recently teamed up with Eye of Like to create a line of pheromone-infused fragrances and candles to help people in love attract their perfect mate.
“It should be the man or the woman, depending on what you need. Homosexual or straight, fluid, bi,” Stanger says of his inclusive — and aptly titled “Matchmaker” product line. “And for those who are in pairs, there is {couples} equipment.”
“The Matchmaker” airs Thursdays at 8pm ET on The CW.
