The game’s viewership broke several records
According to ESPN, the game peaked at 17 million viewers. The highly anticipated showdown featuring teams led by Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark and Huskie standout Hannah Stuelke broke several records.
The game produced more viewers than any college or professional basketball game in ESPN history! The previous record-breaking game was in 2018. Cleveland played Boston in Game 7 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals.
Additionally, the numbers for the Iowa vs. UConn game were the second-best non-football game broadcast on the sports network.
The next match could bring numbers
Caitlin is the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history. Iowa’s next opponent is the South Carolina Gamecocks, who have not lost a game. Fans are eager to see women in play, which could consequently break the current record.
NCAA women’s basketball experienced a surge in popularity last year as Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese began putting up numbers and fighting for the title.
Reese used John Cena’s ‘You Can’t See Me’ gesture against Clark after she performed the move in a game. As previously reported, the two were facing off at the NCAA women’s championship when she returned Caitlin’s insult. Reese and LSU won in the end.
However, Iowa eliminated the Tigers from the tournament this year in the Elite Eight on Monday (April 1). The matchup drew 12.3 million viewers, nearly breaking the NBA pregame viewership record for the Iowa-UConn game.
Caitlin is acquiring big businesses
Caitlin’s basketball skills are paying off. Ice Cube stretched out a big BIG3 contract to the guard. He offered Hawkey $5 million dollars to play 10 games.
After the news leaked, Ice Cube confirmed, “BIG3 has made a historic offer to Caitlin Clark. Why wouldn’t we? Caitlin is a generational athlete who can achieve tremendous success in the BIG3.”
Caitlin said she found out about the deal “at exactly the same time” as the world did because she has “other people dealing with it.” Men’s Diary reports.
Shirt number 22 stated that he is thinking about the game and winning the national championship.
The Hawkeyes and Gamecocks will face off on Sunday (April 7) at 3 p.m. ET.
