Anna Paquin is grateful for the support of her fans. Days after the actress made the headlines for the use of a cane on the red carpet, Paquin and her husband, Stephen Moyerstarred in the latest edition of “Spilling the E-Tea” and discussed his health.
During the conversation, Paquin expressed gratitude for the love he received following his undisclosed medical condition.
“I am extraordinarily touched and humbled by people who show that they care and are interested and kind about this,” she said. “…At some point I’ll probably craft my own platform in my own words. I’m so grateful for the support.”
After his noteworthy appearance, a source told ET that Paquin is dealing with an undisclosed illness that has caused some mobility issues and required her to use a cane for assistance. She also had some difficulties with speech, but at the moment she is fine and will hopefully make a full recovery,” the source added.
For now, though, Paquin and Moyer are busy promoting their film, A little light, which she stars in and he directs. In the film, Paquin plays Ella, a woman who returns to live with her father after losing custody of her two children.
During “Spilling the E-Tea,” Moyer told his wife why she was perfect for the role.
“When I read this, you were the first person I immediately thought of, because there are very few people I’ve ever had in my orbit who I knew would go down the rabbit hole of complexity that Ella’s character needed. inhabit,” he said. “She’s a pretty broken character and a pretty broken soul.”
On a more practical front, Moyer joked, “There was a 39-year-old man written into the script. You happened to be 39 when we were filming, so if I had cast someone else, I would have been put in jail by the husband. “
For Paquin, playing the role was a challenge, especially as she discovered how not to use “method” during filming.
“I know it (method acting) works for some people, but it’s not really realistic if you’re going home with your kids. You have to be a human being and everything,” Paquin, who shares 13-year-old twins with Moyer, explained.
Making the film was easier with Moyer behind the camera, Paquin said.
“You are exceptionally talented. You think about images, narratives and camera angles and know every aspect of making a film or TV show inside and out,” she gushed. “That’s really interesting. I think talent is sexy.”
After seeing the film, Moyer hopes that despite its “dark thematic tone,” fans will understand that it is “about hope and about forgiveness and redemption.”
“It’s about not being your choices… There is hope for you after going through the hard part of whatever you’re going through. You can get through this and you can exist again,” he said. “… It’s been a difficult three, four years for everyone on the planet, so I think the film represents that little bit of hope that we all need sometimes for anything… is that you get through.”
A little light is now in theaters.
