Ford EcoSport successor patent recently filed in India to rival Hyundai Venue
Ford appears to be gearing up for a significant comeback in India with its upcoming EcoSport successor. Leaked patents and recent speculation suggest that Ford is expected to introduce a new offering aimed at emerging markets including India and South America. Here is a rendering based on the design patent and the leaked car that was spotted a few years ago in India and was supposed to be launched in partnership with Mahindra.
Taking inspiration from Ford’s recent designs from the American and Chinese markets, the new SUV is expected to sport a bold grille and stacked LED daytime running lights. The exterior design looks more rugged with black wheel arch cladding and sculpted lower doors.
Inside, significant improvements are expected, addressing criticisms of the plastics and basic features of the EcoSport’s cabin. The new model is rumored to offer a range of modern features such as a prominent infotainment touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, 360-degree camera and wireless charging. The inclusion of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility should also increase its appeal.
The basis of the new SUV could be Ford’s VX-772 platform, possibly with a choice of gasoline and diesel engines, including a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. Recent speculation suggests that Ford may opt for an all-Ford powertrain and platform configuration.
In terms of competition, Ford’s next offering will face established rivals like the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and the like.
Along with this, Ford is also expected to launch several new premium products including the new generation Endeavour, all-electric Mustang Mach-E, Ford Ranger, etc. markets.
