“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” set the box office on fire this weekend, and the entire franchise reached an impressive milestone… but some are saying producers shouldn’t trust their ghosts before they materialize.
According to reports, ‘Ghostbusters’ is expected to gross $45.2 million in its opening weekend domestically – taking first place by a large margin over some theater champions.
Meanwhile, the film got off to a mediocre start internationally… grossing just $16.1 million in 25 global markets – however, enough for an impressive opening weekend total of $61 million.
‘GFE’ battled “Dune: Part Two” and “Kung Fu Panda 4” for the top spot this week — there are specific signs that the film won’t be a total box office success.
For one thing, ‘Frozen Empire’ is narrowly beating the last film in the franchise – “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” – by around $1 million domestically… and that was significantly cheaper to make with reports saying it cost $ 75 million for the new film. Funds of US$100 million.
And “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” has nabbed some powerful contenders at the box office next weekend — with the combined forces of Godzilla and King Kong set to debut.
In fact… critics and the public have completely different opinions about the film. It received a 43% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but an 84% audience rating. So maybe not a cinematic masterpiece, but probably a fun experience!
Ghostbusters certainly isn’t afraid of ghosts… but the film’s producers will be petrified that the box office numbers will come in!
