Prince Harry It is Meghan Markle are breaking the silence a few hours later Kate Middleton announced that he is fighting cancer.
In a statement to ET, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex say, “We wish Kate and her family health and healing and hope they can do so privately and in peace.”
Harry and Meghan’s comments came shortly after the Princess of Wales announced on Friday that tests following abdominal surgery in January showed she had cancer. She added: “My medical team therefore advised that I should have preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of this treatment.”
Kate, 42, shares three children with Prince William – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.
“Of course this was a big shock. And William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately, for the sake of our young family,” she said. she added in her video statement. “As you can imagine, this took time. It took me some time to recover from major surgery to begin my treatment. But most importantly, we took time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louie in a way that is appropriate for them and to assure them that I will be fine. As I told them, I am fine and getting stronger every day, focusing on the things that will help me heal. In my mind, body and spirit. Having William by my side It’s a great source of comfort.”
Neither the palace nor Kate have shared what type of cancer she is battling, only that she is now undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Following the devastating news, a source told ET that Kate filmed the video on March 20 and began receiving cancer treatment shortly after surgery in January.
Harry and Meghan’s statement comes soon after King Charles III also showed his support for his daughter-in-law, with a Buckingham Palace spokesperson sharing how the Princess of Wales’ father-in-law feels about the announcement.
Charles is “very proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking out as she did”, the spokesperson told ET. Following their time together in hospital, Charles “has remained in closer contact with his beloved daughter-in-law over the past few weeks,” and both royals “will continue to offer their love and support to the entire family at this difficult time.” “
The cancer revelation comes more than two months after the palace announced on January 17 that Kate had suffered “planned abdominal surgery.” That same day, the palace also announced that Her Majesty would seek treatment for an enlarged prostate. About two weeks later, Buckingham Palace announced that Charles had been diagnosed with cancer.
Harry and Meghan’s statement comes amid continued tension with royalty this dates back to 2020, when the couple decided to step away from royal life and move to the United States. In fact, royal expert Katie Nicholl told ET why she believes Harry and Meghan are not being kept informed amid speculation about Kate’s whereabouts.
“Of course they know she’s been in (hospital), I’m not even sure they know what she’s been doing because the relationship is so far apart now, you know, the brothers don’t talk to each other and Kate and Meghan certainly don’t talk, so , although well wishes have been extended – certainly from the Sussexes – I’m not sure they are really as informed as perhaps more senior members of the royal family,” Nicholl said.
And as far as the Duke and Duchess extending an olive branch to the Prince and Princess of Wales, Nicholl isn’t buying it.
“I know there were reports, particularly in the United States, that Meghan had contacted Kate and that there had been some kind of thaw in the relationship,” Nicholl told ET. “I think these reports are a little off.”
