At the time of fall, Jenifer Lewis was having a good year. In addition to the Hollywood star, she also wrapped the eighth season of ‘Black-ish’ and released her memoir ‘Walking in My Joy: In These Streets’, by PEOPLE.
Aunt Jen told Roberts she planned to retire, return home to Missouri, and that life seemed “wonderful,” especially after her world travels.
Then, another “unique trip” to Africa with friends changed his trajectory. His travels across the continent included a trip from Cape Town to Rwanda.
“We are having fun, we are feeling a lot. We’re going where the real people are,” Jenifer said, revealing that she even spent time in the mountains with gorillas.
After arriving in Serengeti, Tanzania, she checked into a hotel. Although she was escorted to his room, she was not given a tour of it. By dusk, she said, it was pitch black due to the lack of street lighting in the city. When she stepped out of her accommodation onto a balcony, her journey went from wonderful to her life in danger.
“I packed my safari clothes and saw the infinity pool on my deck. So I left, I was just thinking I was back in the Serengeti once again. And I was walking and all of a sudden I fell 10 feet into a dry ravine full of boulders and rocks and sharp rocks. There was a space that was not sectioned off and there was no sign that said, ‘Caution, 10 feet. to tear down.’ “
She was “in shock”. Although “it was difficult” to “take a deep breath to scream”, that’s what she did, calling for her friend Laurie.
“My right hip took the impact. My shoulder hit the rock,” she said. “A bolt of lightning flashed through my mind. In the total darkness, I didn’t know I was falling. nothing would move. So I laid there and said, ‘Move your body, baby. Come on, Jenny, move your body. “
After her friend turned on a light for her, she noticed a buffalo a few feet away and said she heard a lion roar. At that moment, all she could think of was a headline about being eaten alive. As for how she’s feeling right now, Jennifer Lewis is “humiliated” and feels like she needs to “win to be alive.”
