Suzuki Escudo and Torqnado nameplates registered in India
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch a slew of new models in the coming years. Recently, its parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, registered trademarks for two names – Escudo and Torqnado – sparking speculation about their potential use in Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming launches.
Although the trademarks have been registered, it is essential to understand that this does not guarantee the immediate adoption of these names. Rather, it signifies Suzuki’s intention to protect these names for potential future use. The Escudo nameplate is familiar to Suzuki enthusiasts as it is used on the Vitara SUV in Japan. On the other hand, Torqnado appears to be a new addition to the Suzuki lineup.
Among the models confirmed in Maruti Suzuki’s pipeline are new-gen iterations of popular nameplates like the Swift and Dzire. These models are already in the testing phase and should reach the Indian market in the coming months. The recently spied test mules of the Dzire suggest that it will come with the segment’s first sunroof. Additionally, the long-awaited eVX electric vehicle is expected to debut in late 2024, and sales will likely begin in early 2025.
However, there are several other models in development, identified by their internal model codes, which could potentially bear the new registered names. These include a three-row SUV based on the Grand Vitara, an electric MPV, an entry-level electric hatchback, a micro SUV and a three-row compact MPV.
The timeline for the launch of these upcoming models is unknown. For now, Maruti Suzuki will introduce the new generation Swift and Dzire, followed by the production version of the eVX and subsequent launches from 2025 onwards.
