We could finally see a sequel to Adam Sandler Happy Gilmore? The man who stole our hearts by eating shit for breakfast says yes.
In an interview with The Ken Carman Showactor Christopher McDonald – better known around the world as Happy Gilmore nemesis Shooter McGavin – revealed that Adam Sandler recently told him there was a “first draft” of a script for Happy Gilmore 2. In fact, says McDonald, he showed him the script.
Here’s what McDonald said…
I saw Adam (Sandler) about two weeks ago and he said to me, ‘McDonald, you’re going to love this… I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about this?’ and he shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2’. Maybe you should cut that (from this audio) because I don’t want to be a liar, but he showed me this and I thought, ‘Well, that would be amazing.’ So, it’s underway. The fans demand it, damn it!

The original Happy Gilmore was released in 1996 and grossed around $40 million against a budget of $12 million. It became an even bigger hit on home video and cable TV and helped launch Sandler’s film career. (The wedding singer came out two years later and cemented Sandler’s movie star status.) Sandler played an average hockey player who discovers he has a supernatural gift for golf. A former professional golfer named Chubbs (played by the late, great Carl Weathers) helps him harness his talent, and Happy sets out to become a golf champion – with the evil Shooter McGavin standing in his way.
Sandler has done relatively few live-action sequels throughout his career. He did a second Adults after the first film became a huge hit in theaters, and he recently released a second Murder mystery starring him and Jennifer Aniston for Netflix. And that! He’s never made a sequel to any of his most popular films – and Happy Gilmore may be at the top of that list.
I have no idea how as you make one Happy Gilmore sequel 20 years later. Maybe he’s now the Chubbs to some young hockey player turned golfer? Either way, I think Sandler fans would definitely watch it.
