Neve Campbell is returning to ‘Scream’ – something she just announced after leaving a few years ago because of pay discrepancies… and a lot of drama since then.
The actress broke the news on Instagram on Tuesday, posting a photo of a ‘Scream 7’ script with her name on it — and some other interesting details about who’s writing it and who’s directing (more on that later).
Waiting for your permission to upload Instagram media.
NC writes: “I am so excited to announce this news!!! Sidney Prescott is returning!!!! It has always been a blast and an honor to play Sidney in the Scream films. My appreciation for these films and what they meant to me has never diminished .”
She adds: “I’m so happy and proud to say that I was asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!! Well, actually I could.”
Neve goes on to say that she is honored to work on this latest installment with the original screenwriter of the first and second films – Kevin Williamson – who is now driving.
She ends by saying… “To the amazing Scream fans, I hope you’re as excited as I am. See you on set.”
Clearly, any pay issues Neve had when she left ‘Scream 6’ have been resolved – remember, she first said that the bosses behind the film weren’t paying her a salary that she felt was fair… and as a result, she was absent from the last film.
Of course, after all that… the ‘Scream’ franchise lost two of its main stars – Melissa Barreira It is Jenna Ortega – so this move to bring Neve back into the mix as a main character (again) is kind of obvious. After all, she is the soul of the franchise.
It’s interesting… earlier this year, Neve heavily hinted that she was open to returning amid all the chaos the franchise has been facing lately – but also hinted that she would only return for the right amount of money. Clearly, they wrote her a fat check.
Good for Neve… and welcome back!
